If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It -- Manisha Jyotindra Vyas MS Computer Science '14

SFBU San Francisco Bay University Manisha Jyotindra Vyas MS CS '14

Manisha has been fascinated by technology and engineering since her childhood. Her father, who is a chemical engineer, had a great influence on her becoming an engineer. She learned from him that engineering is a set of skills which allows you "to create anything you have in your mind. How empowering is that?! Since then I wanted to be an engineer, just like my dad!"

Besides her passion for engineering, she had a strong desire to fly. She moved to Canada to achieve her dream of becoming an aviator. After finishing her studies, she worked for five years as a flight instructor and charter pilot. However, she always felt that computer science was calling her back. Her husband, Rajan Vyas, an SFBU alumnus himself, encouraged her to apply for the Computer Science program here.

Manisha proudly shares, "The university not only gave me good education from excellent professors, but also a platform to participate in extracurricular activities, such as student clubs and Hackathons. I still remember how I shared my idea with the late Dr. George Hsieh, former president, about organizing a cultural function here, and how enthusiastic he was about it. I keep these precious memories forever. I am very proud of my university, and I am where I am today because of the university !"

" If you can dream it, you can do it
"Your wings already exist, all you have to do is fly" Unknown

Through hard work, dedication, and the knowledge she gained at SFBU, Manisha landed her job at Verizon as an Android Developer. Working on the customer identity and authentication team, her role is to lead mobile Android-friendly efforts for user authentication services at Verizon.

Manisha believes that a true leader inspires and influences others. She explains, "A leader will guide, teach, praise, discipline, assist and stand back when needed. Successful life is when you smile often, dream big, laugh a lot and realize how blessed you are for what you have!"

Her goal is to influence the future of smartphones by contributing her innovative ideas: "I am open for new opportunities and challenges, always planning to give best of my knowledge to the firm I am working for. I want to see myself going up in the hierarchy to be a leader, and influence others to be better."
