Bio

Dr. Gary Giss is Director of International Programs and Partnerships and Professor of Practice at San Francisco Bay University. He brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education, including extensive experience in international programs, with more than 15 years of living and working full-time in Asia. He is currently based in Vietnam.

Dr. Giss holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership and Innovation; an MBA in Global Management; a Master’s in Health Psychology and Behavioral Medicine; a Master’s in Counseling with a specialization in Community Counseling; and bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Anthropology. He has taught at the university level for more than 20 years in the United States and throughout China and Vietnam. Dr. Giss has taught 50 different courses, including developing several new courses, primarily in international business, management, and psychology.

Throughout his career, Dr. Giss has held a wide range of leadership positions, including Dean at two institutions, director-level positions, and department chair. He has also served in city, county, and state government positions and worked as a psychotherapist and Clinical Director. His international experience includes developing academic partnerships and international programs, as well as teaching, research, and creating opportunities for cross-cultural learning and collaboration.

Having traveled to 60 countries and lived and worked extensively throughout Asia, Dr. Giss brings a broad global perspective to his work at SFBU. As Director of International Programs and Partnerships, he focuses on expanding SFBU’s global partnerships and creating meaningful academic and professional opportunities for students and faculty. As a Professor of Practice, he brings his extensive professional and international experience into the classroom, connecting academic learning with the realities of an increasingly interconnected world.
