Bio
Jesse Ramirez is in his final year as a doctoral candidate in the Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education (CTE) program, with a specialization in Mathematics Education, at the Stanford Graduate School of Education (GSE). After previously graduating from Stanford, where he received his B.S. in Mathematics and M.A. in Education with a focus on the Teaching of Mathematics, Jesse returned to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to teach high school mathematics in South Central Los Angeles for seven years. Jesse led the AP Calculus AB program at Green Design STEAM academy during all of these years, guiding his cohorts of students to an at least 80% passing rate on the AP Exam during his last four years of teaching. Jesse has also taught night and summer courses at the Los Angeles Community College, as well as Saturday calculus sessions through UCLA and UCR’s AP Readiness Programs.
In conjunction with his doctoral program, Jesse worked as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses at the Stanford GSE, as well as an adjunct instructor for the Alder Graduate School of Education. Jesse has also learned greatly from his doctoral advisors, Jo Boaler and Jennifer Osuna, by participating in research-practice partnerships to help revolutionize mathematics education by advocating for advanced, yet equitable mathematics instruction for all students.
In his free time, Jesse enjoys playing and watching sports, visiting different eateries in the Bay Area, watching television shows and movies, and reading the latest books and research in mathematics education.
