Welcome to SFBU Counseling Services

College life is exciting, but it can also be stressful. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, dealing with anxiety or just need someone to talk to, SFBU Counseling Services is here for you. Meeting with a licensed therapist can help you manage stress, build coping skills and gain perspective — all in a safe, confidential space.

You don’t have to navigate challenges alone.

What is Counseling?

Counseling is a safe, confidential, and supportive space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Counseling isn't about someone telling you what to do or judging your choices. Instead, it is a process of self-discovery where a counselor helps you gain clarity, develop healthy coping strategies, and work toward your personal and academic goals.

What to Expect

  • A Safe Space: Everything you share is strictly confidential (within legal and ethical limits), meaning your privacy is fully protected.
  • Tailored Support: Sessions are focused on your unique needs and goals, whether you are dealing with a short-term crisis or looking to understand long-standing patterns.
  • Skill Building: You will learn practical tools to handle some of life’s challenges, such as managing stress, improving relationships, handling anxiety, or building resilience.

Common Reasons Students Seek Counseling

Seeking counseling doesn't mean there is something wrong with you. It can be a tool to support your wellness, allowing you to focus on your academics while working towards your goals. There is no problem "too small" or "too big" for counseling. Students frequently visit us to talk about:

  • Academic Stress: Procrastination, burnout, test anxiety, or imposter syndrome.
  • Life Transitions: Homesickness, identity exploration, or adjusting to university life.
  • Relationships: Conflicts with roommates, family tension, or navigating romantic partnerships.
  • Identity: Gender, culture, sexuality, spirituality, personal and professional development, socioeconomic status, etc.
  • Mental Health Concerns: Managing symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, or grief.
  • Self-Care: Improving self-esteem, sleep habits, and overall well-being.

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Seeking support is a sign of strength and a proactive step toward a successful university experience.
